Description
Photo Extractions Photoshop Elements: Selections and Masking (2)
Photo Extractions Photoshop Elements: Selections and Masking (2) | 3 Session Replays | Adobe Photoshop Elements
Photo extractions in Photoshop Elements become truly powerful once you know how to handle the hardest subjects — and nothing tests your skills quite like hair and fur.
Part 2 builds directly on the skills from Part 1 and goes further — specifically into the tools, guided edits, and masking methods that make complex extractions possible in Photoshop Elements. Across three sessions, you will expand your selection toolkit, tackle hair and fur with confidence, and work through a clear, step-by-step extraction plan you can return to every time you need it.
As a result, you will finish this class with both the skills and the practical experience to take on photo extractions that previously felt out of reach.
Note: This is the second and final part of the Selections, Masking, and Photo Extractions series for Photoshop Elements, conducted in Adobe Photoshop Elements 2023. Register for the Adobe Photoshop CC version here.

Session 2: Hair, Fur, and Advanced Masking
This is where photo extractions in Photoshop Elements get genuinely exciting. Going deep into the most complex subjects of all — hair and fur — this session gives you a full set of tools and methods for clean, realistic results. In addition to a fun Perfect Pet guided edit to open the session, you will also cover:
- Hair and fur masking tools, methods, and processes — in detail
- Three ways to remove halos and fringes for cleaner extractions
- Methods for showing fine lines in difficult extractions
- How to build custom brushes for better masking results
- Helpful tools and resources for taking hair and fur extractions further
- Using the Spot Healing Brush and Clone Stamp to clean up edges
- Applying filters to improve your masks
- A step-by-step hair and fur extraction plan you can follow every time
- A Channels workaround — an alternative approach available in Photoshop Elements
- Dodge and Burn edits for more refined, realistic results
- The creative value of clipping masks in your photo artistry pages
Session 3: Practice, Repetition, and Process
Rather than covering new tools, Session 3 focuses on building on what you learned in Session 2. Through practice and repetition across a range of different photos, the methods become natural. Moreover, by the end of this session, you will know not just how each tool works, but when and why to reach for it. This session includes:
- More examples using the full range of methods from Session 2
- Clear guidance on which process to use and when
- Repetition of methods across a variety of different photos

I agree that it will take me a while to digest/master much of the info in this class. I never thought of making brushes to fix hair extractions. I’m going to try that. Good job offering this to both PS and PSE.
Anna Aspnes –
Thanks Priscilla. Doing my best to support the PSE tribe 🙂

Thanks once again Anna for another class full of great information so well presented and full of ahh-ha moments. It’s appreciated that you validate our questions and comments during the class and make us a little smarter in the process. I also am thrilled that you did this for PSE users.

Moving forward I will always provide a separate class if the Photoshop techniques do not translate well to Photoshop Elements 🙂 Appreciate your support and kind words. Also thrilled you loved the class!
